Skate
Canada views a coach as being anyone who is a fully
certified NCCP Trained CanSkate Professional Coach or
higher, is a Coaching Member of Skate Canada and holds
a valid First Aid certificate. Skate Canada Professional
Coaches must fulfill these qualifications before being
allowed to coach in a Skate Canada club or sanctioned
skating school. This ensures a standardized approach to
quality instruction in Skate Canada-Central Ontario programs.
The National Coaching Certification
Program (NCCP) is a three-part program that provides education
for coaches. It addresses various aspects of coaching
through Theory, Technical and Practical components. Topics
covered in the Theory component, for example, include
Skill Analysis, Sport Safety, Growth and Development,
while in the Technical component, Music and Choreography,
Basic Movement, and Business Management are a sample of
the topics addressed.
